Scotland by Van

When I started looking for a destination for a van adventure, Scotland quickly became the obvious choice. Spectacular landscapes, winding roads lined with lochs and mountains, and above all, a real sense of freedom — the freedom to travel at your own pace. Scotland is made for those who love raw nature, quiet roads, and the charm of ancient castles.

I also loved visiting Outlander filming locations, like Midhope Castle, which appears frequently in the series. Walking around it feels like stepping straight into another era — a blend of history and fiction that brings the place to life.

Before you go, a few small tips: beware of the midges — tiny biting insects that can quickly ruin a walk. Bring repellent and check the Midge Forecast before heading out. The weather changes constantly, sometimes every ten minutes, so pack warm and waterproof clothes, a hat, and sturdy walking shoes. Travelling across Scotland in a van is so much more than just a road trip. It’s about living with the rhythm of the wind, the light, and the clouds. It’s falling asleep by a loch, waking up to the mist, and sipping a hot coffee in silence. A pure and simple sense of freedom — one I’d recommend to anyone longing to reconnect with the essentials.
