Breathtaking landscapes... and the luxury of time.
If you dream of a raw, bright and silent Norway, these three regions are for you. Here, ‘slow tourism’ takes on its full meaning: you slow down, you observe, you walk, you breathe. There's no need to rush from one spot to the next — the most beautiful things often happen between two stages: golden light on the fjords, a coffee facing the sea, an almost unreal silence.
Summer in Lofoten, Senja and Vesterålen means choosing raw beauty and serenity. A Nordic escape where nature imposes silence and invites you to slow down.

The Lofoten Islands: the Nordic icon
The Lofoten Islands are world-renowned for their steep mountains plunging into the ocean, their white sandy beaches (Haukland, Uttakleiv) and their fishing villages with their typical red cabins — the famous rorbuer.
It's the perfect playground for hiking, kayaking and photography... but also simply for enjoying the peace and quiet, far from the usual tourist crowds.
Slow living: take the time to stop often. The roads are a spectacle in themselves, especially when the weather changes in a matter of minutes (which happens often).
Senja: "Norway in miniature"
Less well known, Senja is nicknamed ‘Norway in miniature’ — and rightly so. Deep fjords, wild beaches, forests, scenic roads... and above all spectacular mountains such as Segla and Husfjellet.
In winter, Senja is a prime spot for northern lights, and in summer, you can experience the midnight sun.
Why we love it: the atmosphere is wilder, more intimate, and often less crowded than certain areas of the Lofoten Islands.
Vesterålen: unspoilt nature and marine encounters
Further north, Vesterålen is the perfect place for whale watching safaris, especially around Andenes.
The atmosphere here is calmer and more authentic: ideal if you want to reconnect with nature, go hiking, and enjoy magnificent views of the Norwegian Sea.
The added bonus: this region is perfect for slow travel: fewer crowds, more space, more time.
Sommarøy, the island that lives to the rhythm of the seasons
Sommarøy is the kind of place where you forget the time.
In summer, the days seem endless: the light is soft, the beaches are bright, the sea sparkles... perfect for walking, hiking or simply sitting by the ocean.
In winter, the landscape becomes raw and silent: snow-capped mountains and northern lights above the sea. Midnight sun or polar night: Sommarøy remains a place apart.
Highlights: experiences not to be missed
Here are our favourites: simple, authentic and sometimes truly unforgettable experiences. Click on each section to find out why they deserve a place in your trip.
Brown cheese with a slightly sweet and caramelised taste, often served in thin slices on bread or waffles. Surprising at first… but quickly addictive.
A memorable experience. You sail through a vast landscape, and suddenly a whale surfaces, sometimes very close to the boat. Thrills guaranteed.
By boat along the coast, and above you: impressive eagles, sometimes just a few metres away. A powerful moment, incredibly photogenic.
Visiting a salmon farm provides an insight into one of the country's most iconic products: from the sea to the plate, in an exceptional natural environment.
Hiking (easy to moderate): our favourite spots
Lofoten
Reinebringen: equipped staircase, steep but short climb. Legendary view of Reine and the fjords
Offersøykammen: short hike, 360° panorama.
Ryten + Kvalvika beach: bird's eye view of the beach, no technical sections.
Senja
Segla: the best known. It's uphill, but the path is well marked. Incredible views.
Hesten: less crowded, impressive views of the fjord.
Husfjellet: quieter, perfect in good weather, unobstructed views.
Must-see beaches: Haukland & Uttakleiv
Two beaches in Lofoten that are a must-see: light sand, surprisingly blue water, mountains that almost fall into the sea.
People go there to walk, breathe, take photos, or just stand there and look at the landscape. When the light is right, it's truly spectacular.
Slow tips for a successful trip
Fewer steps, more moments: allow for ‘empty’ time for weather, breaks, detours.
Light: early morning and late afternoon = pure magic.
Equipment: windbreaker, waterproof jacket, good shoes (even in summer).
Respect for nature: stay on the trails, leave nothing behind, favour less frequented spots.
