What Made the Biggest Impression on Me in Thailand

Thailand is a country that really left a lasting impression on me, and not just because of its landscapes — even though they’re incredible. Between the jungle, the mountains that remind you of those in the movie "Avatar", and the beaches with water so clear you can see fish everywhere, there’s always something to catch your eye. But beyond that, what touched me the most were the people. Thais are truly warm and welcoming. You quickly sense that they genuinely want you to have a good time, without it feeling forced. Everything feels quite simple and natural in your interactions.

The food is also a big part of the experience. It’s often spicy, rich in flavor and color, and you quickly want to try everything. Add to that the natural surroundings, with a diversity of animals you don’t necessarily see elsewhere.

But in the end, what stands out most to me is this different way of life — calmer, more respectful, with genuine care for others and for the world around us. That’s what makes this country so special to me.

Traveling in Thailand also means learning to slow down

Before I left, I hadn’t really thought about it, but Thailand truly taught me to slow down. Of course, you discover a culture very different from what we’re used to in Europe, especially through the Buddhist temples, the offerings, and the traditions — but it’s not just that.

It’s mostly a feeling you get once you’re there, as if the pace were different. Without really realizing it, you take more time, you enjoy the simple moments more, and it becomes quite natural.

It’s something that’s hard to explain until you’ve experienced it, but once you’re there, you understand pretty quickly. In my opinion, it’s a trip that can easily last between two and five weeks, or even longer, because there’s so much to see — but also just to experience.

Bangkok and the North: Places I Didn’t Expect to Love So Much

I didn’t expect to love Bangkok so much. At first, I saw the capital as just a big city you pass through quickly. However, after taking the time to stay there for a few days, I discovered a city that’s incredibly rich and full of contrasts. There are, of course, the temples, such as Wat Suthat, Wat Phra, and the Reclining Buddha, which I found very impressive. There’s also the whole atmosphere around them, like the flower market where you can watch offerings being prepared, or Chinatown, which comes alive at night with its lights and food stalls.

At the same time, some areas are much quieter, like the Khlong Bang Luang neighborhood, which is greener and more laid-back, offering a glimpse of another side of the city. As for me, I took the overnight train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. I really enjoyed the experience. Falling asleep in the middle of the city and waking up the next day surrounded by nature is quite unique and really marks the beginning of a change in atmosphere.

Chiang Mai was a stop I particularly enjoyed, with a more laid-back pace. Between the night markets, small food stalls, cooking workshops, boxing matches, and elephant sanctuaries, there’s always something to do without it feeling overwhelming.

From the city, you can also head to Chiang Rai to explore temples like the White Temple or the Blue Temple, which are quite impressive to see.

My favorite part of the trip: Khao Sok

Khao Sok National Park remains one of the most memorable highlights of the trip. Sleeping in huts on the water, surrounded by jungle and with no cell service, really allowed me to disconnect. At first, it seemed a bit unusual, but I quickly adapted and simply enjoyed the moment to the fullest, whether swimming, kayaking, or spending time with other travelers.

The Islands: Each One Is Different, and That’s What Makes the Trip Even More Special

The islands in Thailand are all very different from one another, and that’s exactly what makes the trip even more interesting.

Some, like Koh Phangan, are known for their party atmosphere, and it’s true that if you like to party, the experience is quite unique. But the island is more than just that, as it also offers beautiful beaches and truly magnificent sunsets.

Other islands, like Koh Tao, left a stronger impression on me with their natural beauty and relaxed atmosphere. It’s an island where you quickly feel at ease, whether you’re diving, taking a stroll, or simply enjoying the beach.

Koh Lanta, on the other hand, struck me as calmer, simpler, and a bit more authentic. Finally, places like Koh Phi Phi really impressed me with their landscapes, their views, and the color of the water, which can seem almost unreal at times.

Ultimately, each island has its own unique atmosphere, which really allows you to mix up your trip with a balance of relaxation, exploration, and more lively moments.

A destination where I felt at ease

Thailand is a country where I felt comfortable from start to finish. I never felt unsafe there, which allowed me to fully enjoy the experience. It’s also a place where it’s easy to meet people, whether locals or fellow travelers.

I think it’s a particularly good destination for a first trip to Asia, because the country offers a change of scenery while remaining accessible.

Why I Would Recommend Thailand Without Hesitation

In my opinion, Thailand isn’t just a destination you visit, it’s a country you experience. It’s about moments, encounters, and atmospheres — sometimes very simple, but ones that stay with you.

It’s a trip that lets you slow down, step back, and see things differently, and it’s for all these reasons that I would recommend it without hesitation.
