Brazil amazed me. Its vibrant culture, the generosity of its people, and the beauty of its landscapes deeply moved me.

From June 6 to 12, 2025, one of our Travel Designers, Arthur Urbain, had the opportunity to take part in the Travel Trophy Sudamérica, an event organized by Sudamerica Tours. This edition took him to the heart of Brazil’s charms, exploring Salvador de Bahia and Praia do Forte.

Enchanted by his stay in the land of football, he shares the highlights of this vibrant and colorful adventure.

Where History Dances to the Beat of Drums

From the moment you arrive in Salvador, your senses are awakened. Exotic scents, lively street music, dazzling colors... The Afro-Brazilian capital embraces you with its contagious energy.

The Pelourinho, a UNESCO World Heritage-listed historical center, delights with its cobbled streets and pastel-colored facades. This iconic neighborhood also served as the filming location for Michael Jackson’s video "They Don’t Care About Us."

Here, music is everywhere. The samba de roda, a traditional Afro-Brazilian musical style, echoes through every street corner, bringing the city to life.

Staying in a charming hotel in the heart of the historic center, participants were ideally situated to explore the city on foot, to the rhythm of the drums.

Living Spirituality and Afro-Brazilian Heritage

In Salvador, spirituality and cultural identity are deeply intertwined. The Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, adorned with colorful ribbons and ex-votos – devotional offerings – is a symbolic place where Catholicism blends with African beliefs.

The popular fervor connects deeply with African roots, particularly through Candomblé, an Afro-Brazilian religion deeply embedded in local identity.

I had the chance to attend a capoeira performance – a mesmerizing mix of music, dance, and martial art. A powerful, emotional moment that’s easy to experience in the city.

A Tropical Escape to Praia do Forte

After the vibrancy of Salvador, Praia do Forte, located 80 km north, offers a soothing interlude. Nature takes center stage here: palm-fringed beaches, turquoise sea, and a laid-back atmosphere – a true haven of peace.

The highlight? A visit to the Projeto TAMAR, a marine turtle conservation center committed to raising awareness about protecting local wildlife.

Far from mass tourism, sitting by the ocean with a caipirinha in hand, I fully embraced the feeling of disconnection. This pause also reminded me how important it is to travel responsibly.

In the evening, Praia do Forte comes alive in a relaxed ambiance: live music, cozy bars, and local-flavored restaurants create a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

A Perfect Balance Between Energy and Serenity

This journey offered two complementary faces of Brazil:

- Salvador, a lively, creative city steeped in Afro-Brazilian culture and history

- Praia do Forte, a peaceful natural retreat perfect for recharging

I discovered authentic places, connected with passionate local partners, and returned full of ideas and reliable contacts to recommend to my clients.
